It is surprising that Fechenbach's prints are not better known. This is partly because of the artists own inclination to view them as a more personal and private part of his work and partly because in post war England the great period of British wood engraving had passed and it was no longer considered a fashionable medium.

For this reason, almost without exception no editions were ever made of his prints. Those in this exhibition are therefore all artists' proofs of uneditioned work. Because of his lack of contact with print dealers and collectors in this country, the artist has in many cases trimmed his prints before mounting.
